An iconic bistro chair design brought up to date. SURPIL was created by French inventor Julien-Henri Porché in 1927. It was designed primarily for use in public spaces (restaurant terraces, cafés and other public areas). The products had to be stylish, tough and stackable so as to minimise the footprint when stored. Porche was the first Frenchman to pioneer the use of the steel tube in 1928 and the Surpil was quickly acclaimed as a design classic.
The chairs have earned their place in the history books of European furniture and have been installed in countless bars and restaurants in Paris, the Ministry of Marine, place de Concorde and in the headquarters of the French Communist Party.
